WHY DO I LOSE MY GOOD FISH FINDER IMAGE AT SPEED?

[just hear me out a sec, scoll down if youve heard it all before]

Apart from an occasional electrical issue or your monitor settings are out, Most of the time its a transducer position issue.

When your boat is underway, the hull creates friction from drag against the water, creating what is termed - boundary layer.

This layer draws in surrounding air and the layer becomes aerated and "dirty", and gets worse with speed.

Your transducer cannot read well through this layer as the sonar beam is deflected in all directions and then struggles to receive signal through this "noise", therefore your monitor screen messes up.

Have you seen a hydrofoil performance board?[ and boats] where the craft is literally out of the water and only a wing is below the water surface lifting the craft up to limit friction and drag.

If you were to see below this turbulent water layer you would find that the water below is "clean" and perfect for a good sonar pulse and read sound return.

You cannot get below this layer with the limited factory mount because it is only designed to skim the water, thus only a certain amount of boats get results using the factory mounts and even these ones that get image, may not be able to read at much speed.

If this is your situation , then only an aftermarket product can keep a good image at speed.
