Why your Garmin GT transducer loses image quality at speed

You've followed the manufacturer's setup guide, researched online, asked mates with the same transducer—but your sounder still clutters up the moment you get on the throttle. Fish arches disappear, bottom contours turn to noise, and you're left guessing what's below.

The transducer itself is excellent. The factory mount holding it? Not versatile enough for your hull.

Every boat rides differently—plowing vs lifting, deep-V vs flat, strakes creating turbulence, different deadrise angles, trim settings, load distribution. The factory mount has almost no adjustment range to account for these variables. It works perfectly on some boats and fails completely on others.

What's wrong with the factory GT mount

Minimal height adjustment
You get maybe 15mm of vertical range. If your hull needs the transducer lower to escape aerated water, the factory mount can't get there.

Built-in spray plate causes problems
The integrated deflector can actually create more turbulence in certain setups, making your image worse.

Can't position deep enough
Only 15mm from the base of the rear plate to the top of the transducer. On pressed aluminium hulls with strakes or deep-V designs, you need to go deeper into clean water—the factory mount won't allow it.

35mm additional depth capacity
Positions your transducer up to 35mm deeper than the factory mount allows. Gets you below the turbulent layer caused by hull shape and strakes, into fast-moving clean water where the transducer can hold signal.

60mm height adjustment slots
Four times the range of the factory mount. Test high, test low, find the exact position where your boat delivers clean readings at speed.

Transom-flush positioning
Allows the transducer to sit hard against the transom or even tuck slightly underneath it. The cleanest water is right at the hull—this mount lets you access it.

Quick angle adjustment
Easy-access hinge lets you dial in transducer angle for accurate bottom reading and proper fish arch display.

316 stainless steel construction
2.5-3mm 316-grade stainless. Built to handle speed, load, and saltwater without flexing or corroding.

Add-on options

Spray Guard Support Tabs (sold separately)
If you position the transducer deeper than recommended and get spray, these tabs provide low-sitting support for a deflection plate. Includes mounting hardware to bolt onto the Pelagic GT mount. Deflection plate not included.

TI Jackplate (sold separately)
One-minute height adjustment without redrilling or resealing transom holes. Also lets you stow the transducer up for beach launching or road travel protection. Comes with hardware for aluminium or fibreglass hulls.
