Product Description
A 1kW transducer is like dragging a brick through water
That's why every setup guide tells you to "skim" the surface. But skimming puts your transducer in the worst possible water—the turbulent, aerated mess your hull creates as it slices through at speed. You lose image quality above 4 knots, fish arches disappear, and bottom definition turns to clutter.
The transducer itself is exceptional. The factory plastic mount holding it at the surface? That's the problem.
Why skimming doesn't work on your boat
Your hull smashes water molecules apart and introduces air into the flow. Look at the trail behind your boat—that churned-up, foaming mess is exactly what your transducer is trying to read through when it's skimming the surface.
Add to that:
- Factory mount with almost no adjustment range
- Plastic construction that vibrates and flexes under load
- Difficult angle adjustments requiring wedges and guesswork
- Increased distance from the transom due to bulky factory design
You're not getting optimal results because the factory mount can't position the transducer where it needs to be—below the turbulent layer, in clean fast-moving water.
How the TM2 ABYSS mount solves the brick-dragging problem
The ABYSS removes every limitation of the factory mount and gives you the positioning range to escape aerated water, even with a 1kW transducer's drag profile.
30mm deep drop capacity
Positions your 1kW transducer up to 30mm deeper than the factory mount allows. Gets the brick below the turbulent surface layer into clean water where it can hold signal at speed. This is the critical difference—depth access the factory mount physically cannot provide.
Transom-flush positioning on steep deadrise angles
Even with a 30-degree transom angle, the ABYSS lets the transducer sit hard against the hull. The cleanest water is right at the transom—this mount ensures you're reading there, not out in disturbed flow.
Quick angle, height, and fore/aft adjustment
No wedges, no guesswork. Adjust on the water and test same-day. Loosen bolts, reposition, tighten, and immediately see the result on your screen. Find your sweet spot in one session instead of multiple haul-outs.
Rock-solid stainless steel construction
Minimises turbulence caused by the bulky, vibrating factory plastic design. Built to last a lifetime in harsh saltwater conditions with zero flex or rattle.
Easy cable retrofit with rear slot design
No need to disconnect the entire cable setup during installation. Slide the cable into the rear slot and you're done. Saves hours of work.
No extra drilling required
Compatible with existing factory mount hole patterns. Direct replacement with no additional transom penetration.
New dual-position rear plate (Sept 2025 onwards)
Comes with reversible rear fixing plate—flip it for deep drop or standard drop positioning depending on your hull requirements. Maximum versatility in one mount.
Managing spray from deep positioning
If you sink the transducer deeper than skimming to escape turbulence, spray is inevitable—you're dragging a brick, after all. But poor sonar image is a bigger problem than spray, and spray is easier to fix.
The ABYSS accepts Spray Guard Support Tabs (sold separately) for mounting a custom deflection plate. We provide DIY videos showing how to fabricate your own plate, or contact me and I'll help you design one.
Tip: Buy the tabs with your initial mount purchase to avoid a second shipping cost later.
Add the ABYSS Jackplate for ultimate adjustability
Pair this mount with the ABYSS Jackplate (sold separately) for tool-free height adjustment in under a minute. No redrilling, no resealing—just loosen four nuts, slide to the new position, and tighten.
The jackplate also lets you stow the transducer up for road travel and beach launching, protecting your investment from impact damage.
Compatibility
Fits: 1kW Airmar and Furuno transducers (standard single-cable models)
Does not fit: Furuno DFF-3D 1kW transducers with dual cables exiting the top of the housing. Contact us if you need a mount for that model—we have a solution.
What's included
- TM2 ABYSS mount with dual-position rear plate (aluminium or fibreglass boat variant)
- 4 transom fixings suited to your hull type (aluminium or fibreglass)
- Insulation washers and rear fixing barrier for aluminium hulls
- Free shipping Australia-wide
Not included: Spray Guard Support Tabs, deflection plate, or ABYSS Jackplate (sold separately)
Select your hull type (Aluminium or Fibreglass) when ordering. Each kit includes the correct hardware for your boat.
